Scary Urban Legends Part 2

Welcome back to Scary Urban Legends! If you haven’t read Part 1, it’ll always be available for you to enjoy! Time for Part 2, so once again, turn off the lights and get cozy!

  1. The Babysitter and The Man Upstairs

There are many examples of this legend so I’ll focus on the one most known, though many variations have been told since the 1960s. A married couple called in a teenage babysitter because they were going out for the evening. When she arrived, the kids were already asleep so it was supposed to be an easy night but they weren’t sure of what time they’d be back. The babysitter settled down into doing homework while she awaited to hear from her boyfriend and although she did receive a phone call, there wasn’t a sound coming from the other end and whoever it was hung up after a few moments. A couple minutes later, the phone rang again as she answered but a man’s chilling words came though. “Have you checked on the children?” he asked. She doesn’t respond and hangs up but he calls again, asking the same question. This time she asks if it was the father calling to check up on them but the man hangs up. Frightened, she calls the restaurant the parents dined at but they had already left 45 minutes earlier so she called 911 in a panic. But because he didn’t threaten her, dispatch said there was nothing they could do. The babysitter turned down the lights and she gets another call from the man as he asked, “Why did you turn the lights down?” She admits to the man that she’s scared and frantically asked if that’s what he wanted. He then creepily tells her that he wanted her blood all over him. She hung up on him and received a call back from dispatch as he fearfully tells her that they’ve traced the call which was coming from another room in the house and to get out of there! She bursts through the door with struggle and finds a cop waiting outside with his gun drawn. Of course, they caught the man but found him at the top of the stairs covered in blood. The babysitter was safe but the children had already been murdered…

2. Lover’s Lane

Also known as “The Dead Boyfriend” most of you have likely heard this urban legend or at least a variation of it.. A young couple were parked, hidden well in the woods, making out in the boyfriend’s car. When they were done, the boy got out in search of a place to pee while his girlfriend safely waited in the car. Five minutes goes by, so she leaves the car to start looking for him but spots the shape of a man in the shadows. Petrified, she rushes back into the car, preparing to drive away and the sudden, eerie sound of squeaking only scares her more. She presses the gas but the car doesn’t move, unable to leave like she wanted. Someone had tied the car to a nearby tree, making her escape impossible, though she tries and floors the gas again. Hearing a loud scream, she gets back out and finds that the source of the squeaking was her boyfriend’s shoes scraping on the roof. He was hanging from the tree above them…

3. The Killer in The Window

A young lady was home all by herself watching television on a dark, cold winter’s night. Beside the TV, was a sliding glass door with open blinds, exposing the outside. Appearing suddenly was an older man hauntingly staring at her through the glass. Frightened, she pulled the blankets over her so he couldn’t see her calling the police. When they got there, the man was gone without any footprints left behind in the snow. They took a look inside and discovered wet prints leading to the couch… “You’re very lucky, miss,” said the officer. “Why?” She asked. “Because the man wasn’t outside, he was behind the couch. What you saw…was a reflection of him..”

How are you doing… Are you alone? Are you reading this in the dark? Are you scared yet? No? Okay, back to the legends!

4. The Body Under The Bed

For their honeymoon, a newlywed couple made a trip to Las Vegas and checked into a nice hotel suite. When they made it to their room, they both came across a terrible smell. The husband called the front desk and asked for another suite, explaining the odor. Unfortunately, the other rooms were already booked due to a convention and the manager offered to send them to a restaurant, complimentary, while the maid cleaned their room, hoping to get rid of the smell. The couple obliged and after their lunch, they returned to the suite only to be greeted with the same odor. He called to complain once more so the manager made an effort to contact other hotels to find them a room but to no avail as others were also booked up for the convention. He said that he’ll send the maid once more to try and clean while the couple went off to sight-see and gamble. She tried everything she could to diminish the terrible odor after a disappointing search to try and find the source. She changed the towels, the sheets, the curtains and cleaned the floor and the entire room with the strongest cleaner they had and left the room for the couple to return. When they did, nothing had changed. Furious at this point, the husband tore apart the room himself and when he lifted the top mattress from the box spring, the dead body of a woman laid there…

5. The Clown Statue

Although, this story has never been proven as fact, a lot of the scary clown tales we hear about are actually based on truth of some kind. A mother and father decided that they needed a break and went out for the night, calling in their most trusted babysitter. Yes, I know, so many stories and tales having to do with babysitters but it’s still creepy nonetheless 😉 The night was calm as the children were sleeping already so when she became bored, she decided to watch TV, which she could only do upstairs since the parents didn’t want their children to have too much access to it. She called the parents, asking if was okay to watch it in their room to which the parents didn’t have a problem with. The babysitter also asked if she could cover up the large clown statue for it made her uncomfortable. The parents went silent for a brief moment. “We don’t have a clown statue,” says the father. “Take the children and get out of the house, we’ll call the police.” The babysitter and the children met their fates that night…The clown was actually a killer who escaped from jail.

I’m going to take this opportunity to share my own experience of a prank that was pulled on me when I was fourteen (I believe). I was best friends with my mother’s friend’s niece.. My friend had a cousin whom she was pretty close with. My mother and her friend decided to take a trip to a nearby cemetery at night. My friend’s cousin was already there hiding behind a tombstone in a clown mask… I don’t have a fear of clowns personally but if I’m chased or scared unexpectedly by a clown, I’m sure not going to be too happy 😉
