Do you ever find yourself doing a double-take because you thought you saw something strange? Maybe it was a shadow or a mass you spotted within your peripheral. Or maybe, it looms over you in your bed at night.
Shadow people are paranormal beings that are commonly referred to be the shadows you see out of the corner of your eye and they often disappear when you try to catch a look at them. The idea of shadow people has been around for a good while but in 2002 it gained more popular attention with author Heidi Hollis and her discussions on Coast to Coast AM radio talk show. She talked about the more modern negative shadow people and how they annoy, harm, and/or scare people. She then became a reoccurring guest on the talk show.
The talk show host Art Bell had already been promoting his belief of shadow people for awhile. He encouraged his listeners to believe their encounters of sleep paralysis and hallucinations were actually attributed to more supernatural forces. In turn, calls flooded in by people who claimed to be plagued by shadow people.
With every belief or experience, there will always be a list of other possible explanations. In this case, one being sleep paralysis. Those who suffer from this are more likely to see something unexplainable that induces fear as they lie awake, unable to move. Others who are sleep deprived may also experience frightening hallucinations that they perceive as a paranormal shadowy figure.
Personally, I believe that the existence of shadow people or entities is very real, due to my own experience when I was 12. Summertime was always miserable in my childhood home, as the upper level would always match the outside heat. One night, while my mother, father, and I were sleeping in our living room, I awoke randomly at midnight (exactly at 12:00). The first floor was styled like a shotgun apartment, so you can see into every room with 2 aligned doorways. I peered down to find that the kitchen/utility room light was on and I saw something that I can only describe as a shadow person. It was tall, at least 6 feet, and was solid black, not transparent in any way. It was also as if it wasn’t aware that I was seeing it, as it repeatedly moved back and forth in front of the doorway. Of course, I had already known and believed in the paranormal and I knew that our home was haunted but I was still petrified at the sight of this dark entity.
